Christopher Gabel
Christopher Gabel, M.Ed, LPC, CCPT
My initial goal as a counselor is to meet you where you are and build a professional relationship with you so that you will feel safe, respected and valued – this is achieved through my warm, empathetic and non-judgmental disposition. I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and a Certified Addictions Informed Mental Health Professional (CAIMAP).
Through our time together, we will explore the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors to identify the way that these factors may be negatively impacting your life. We will work to relearn maladaptive coping mechanisms, explore mindfulness techniques and Polyvagal exercises for relaxation/connection, understand neuroplasticity (the way the brain rewires itself), and reprocess the way in which memories and/or trauma are stored in your brain and body. My hope is that we will collaborate on a journey resulting in a positive change in the perceptions you have about yourself, others and the environment around you.
It takes courage to make yourself vulnerable to the counseling process, but I am here to support, empower, educate and challenge you through our time together. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with you in making what I hope will be a positive and lasting change in your life.
